Socials Programme

Below is our summer socials programme, with socials ranging from skittles, theatre trips and meals.

Email or phone in plenty of time

Some social events are booked by the organiser. If you're interested in attending, please email in plenty of time as it is not always easy/possible to add extra people at short notice and ticket numbers may be limited.

Alternate events Additional SWAG social events are often arranged at short notice without being published on our website and these will be emailed to all on the mailing list.

The set up to the day is as follows; to have a river cruise in the morning, followed by lunch in Weather spoons, followed by a trip to Bath Spa. The river cruise is approximately £10.00 and the Bath Spa £26.00. Please let us known by 31st of December if you wish to attend.

30th - 31st May

A weekend of walks and two nights camping on Dartmoor, based at Runnage Farm, Postbridge, Dartmoor, South Devon, PL20 6TN.
The cost of this weekend is £6 per night per tent (max 2 people per tent). The plan is to camp on the Friday and Saturday night.
Dogs are an extra £2 per night but must be kept on leads at all times. Maximum two dogs for the group booking so will be first come, first served basis. Dogs are not allowed inside the buildings and MUST be kept on a lead and cleaned up after.
Runnage is a working farm. Basic free shower and toilet facilities are shared with the camping barns and there are no marked or fixed pitches for tents. The farm sells its own beef/lamb burgers, lamb chops and lamb steaks along with disposable barbeques and firewood.
If you wish to come along, please let us know by 29th April.
Non camping members are welcome to attend the walks as normal. Anyone wishing to attend the weekend for only one night is welcome to but those wanting alternative accommodation arrangements need to do so by their own arrangement, but please let me know. There are a couple of B&B’s in Postbridge and a Hostel in Bellever.

Walks start at 10.30am and are:

Saturday 30th May 10.30am: Widecombe-In-The-Moor & Bowermans Nose
A three Tor walk including a visit to a giant oak chair, prehistoric hut circles and Bowermans Nose view point at the tip of Hayne Down.
Park and meet in Widecombe-in-the-moor car park (£1 charge for parking)

Sunday 31st May: Postbridge To Bellever Tor
A Forest walk from Postbridge into the forest wilderness of Dartmoor to Bellever Tor and Laughter Tor. Picnic lunch before heading home.

On Friday night the plan is to eat at the highest pub on Dartmoor, The Warren House Inn, Postbridge, PL20 6TA and on Saturday night, weather permitting, to have a barbeque. A summer evening fish and chips at about 8.30pm after a walk to the top of Glastonbury Tor (see walk programme). Fish and Chips at Knights in Glastonbury 5 Northload Street, Glastonbury, BA6 9JJ.
Park and meet in St. Dunstan’s car park (adjacent to the Abbey entrance), Magdalene Street, Glastonbury. Parking free after 6pm

Hire a Beach hut for the day at Budleigh salterton. I will put on a beech picnic and we can enjoy the day on a beautiful beach. Meet at 11.00am for a fun filled day. The more people that can come the less we’ll have to pay for hiring the beach hut.

Mid Somerset Show, Shepton Mallet is reputed to be Europe’s largest free one-day show. Each of the two show rings will run a full programme of events throughout the day. There are full range of trade stands, exhibits and entertainments for all the family.
The Mangledwurzels will be making a return to the show after a few years absence. They will be performing two sets during the afternoon; times to be confirmed on the day.

Tyntesfield National Trust Property, Tyntesfield, just a stone’s throw away from Bristol, was not built as a bold and extravagant statement of wealth, power or politics.
